This image shows a large timber logging site at Riau, Sumatra. The dark red areas are forests. Root-like patterns at the upper left and central right of the image are logging tracks.  In these areas, the forest has been harvested and many burnt scars in greenish colour are visible. A main transport channel has been cut across the forest from left to right.

The forest near the main transport channel has been segmented by the logging activities of the last few months.  Vast areas of forest in the upper half of the image have been cleared. Encroachment of the logging tracks into the lower half of the image poses a threat to the remaining forest area.
